Where did those years go so fast?
I guess it must have been fun!
Sure felt more like hard work, suffering and poverty to me!! The first 20 years were squeezed into a year
‘round job. That was always a
challenge. But the last 10 years have
mostly seen steady improvement in efficiency, not to mention the benefits of
being home with my soon to be 6 year old son Simon, a challenge in itself! It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years! **What a
great time to grow my business with specials & free bow samples as
mentioned above!** Single Face wreaths on double rings are the only wreaths I
make now since my customer feedback has been so positive about them. They are thick, fresh, sturdy, affordable
(profitable) wreaths that weigh nearly as much as the DF. They appear twice as thick since the brush is
all on one side and 99% of the general public either does not know or does not
care about the difference. They store
well, travel well, decorate well and sell well!
In the last 3 years of my 18 year retail business, I went all single
face and I found out that my retail customers’ ignorance truly was my
bliss! A perfect example of less is
more, especially in this economy. The price I pay for good honest brush went up by quite a bit
last year after I sent out my price list.
I’ve gone up a couple of bucks on a few things to help me out with part
of those added expenses and will again try to streamline and increase efficiency
to help bridge the gap. The move and new
shop and all last year was a ‘just barely’ thing. I really should have that put on my license
plate…JUSBRLY. It seems like I live my
life that way. Anyway I’m all settled in
now and with a little cooperation from The
Honorable Mother Nature and a decent bow inventory (well in progress), I expect a somewhat less stressful
experience to be had by all. One thing that would be helpful for me is to go back to my
old standard for deposits and payments. It’s pretty simple:
One third deposit by October 1st to confirm your order and
the balance due at the time of pick-up.
For split deliveries I just need to have a little deposit money on hand
after each pick-up. If checks clearing
are an issue, we need to stay ahead of that.

In 18 or so years of retailing, my nicest bows always sold first. A really nice bow sells the wreath. Devote your time to perishables
when it counts and make or buy your bows ahead. A nice bow can save a 'troubled' wreath. People love what is new and beautiful.
When I was just starting with the high-end ribbon and purchased more conservatively, I would run out of those bows before my busiest weekends!
I encourage you to try some and see for yourself.
Don't run out of your basic reds, but don't shy away from the fancy bows.
Your customers will be happier and you will make more money.

This fresh Balsam or Fraser fir door size wreath (12" frame, 24" OD) and beautiful red velvet 9" Classic Deluxe bow with 14" tails is above the
standard of the average mass produced wreath. It is very reasonably priced per wreath/bow and can retail for at least $12.00 to $18.00 and
sometimes more depending on your area. I don't post wholesale prices on this public website but please call or

This is an excellent way to raise money for your cause with very little effort. This wreath has been a favorite with Scout troops. I guess
Scouts learn more about marketing than actual wreath making these days!! Everyone wins, the Scouts make more money with less effort and the
customer gets a professionally made wreath that they are proud to put on their front door. It is sturdy, full and very fresh made. Whatever
your organization or cause, this wreath with bow will sell itself and market itself as well for future years.
Some of the other organizations that have used my Fundraiser Wreath to raise money are the Humane Society, different church groups, day care
centers, Lion's Club, 4th and 5th graders, and others. Whatever your organization is, if you need to raise money and are considering selling
wreaths, please call me with any questions. The buying minimum is only four dozen, and unless you already have a customer base you should start
small. I have 30 years in the business and believe I can help you increase the success of your fundraising efforts. Buying a ready made
quality wholesale product for resale greatly simplifies the fundraising process and greatly reduces the work load on the volunteers.
And also, once you've experienced some success with this simple fundraiser, there are ways to increase your revenues by adding a second or
third bow choice or even by having extra red velvet bows to sell separately. The additional bow choices would be fancy bows that could
increase your revenues by 2 or 3 dollars per wreath. The extra red velvet bow sales could also increase your revenues by the same amount.
Through my many years in retail I have always sold many, many more bows than wreaths.

There are many options with these bows not on my site. All bows are made from firm, weatherproof, high quality velvet or
weatherproof wired fancy ribbon.
ATTENTION NEW CUSTOMERS Classic Bow. This bow style is
the more traditional bow that is often described as having the ‘bow tie’
look. It has two layers of loops
consisting of 6 loops on the bottom and 4 loops on top of that and a center
loop. These bows are generally made of
the wide ribbon (#40 = 2&5/8”), ship easily, and hold up well when made
with stiff ribbon. I use almost
exclusively wired ribbon for these bows other than the basic velvet, which is
also very stiff. *Classic ‘Combow’ My newest style of bow is the Classic bow made
with a two-way combination of ribbon and has four tails. It’s harder to make, but allows me to blend
colors within the Classic bow, and is my new favorite. I can’t seem to stop
designing new ones. Some individual styles
are by the dozen but the ‘Assorted Classic Combow’ dozen is designed to provide
you with a large variety without having to meet minimums of one kind. *Assorted Classic
Combow.
An assorted dozen of primarily reds, a few burgundies and one or two other
colors. Email me for your wholesale price list. These are all 2-way combination bows as described above.
This is a great high end assortment at a great price.
Puff Bow. This bow style is
made with narrower (#9 = 1&1/4”) ribbon on the smaller bows and the wide (#40 = 2&5/8”)
ribbon on the large bows. It has more
loops, which are all the same length and form a very 3 dimensional looking
bow. The advantages of the Puff bow are
that it is very affordable, easy to mix colors in the same bow, it is very
festive looking and it looks good even after a winter of punishment. It also uses much less storage space because
the bows are opened by you when placed on the wreath. You can store 75 bows in the space you would
hang a winter coat. These bows do not
ship well opened but they do ship easily unopened. There is only one right way to open them to
achieve the fullness you see on my website and it is very quick and easy to
do. They are an eye catching alternative
to the Classic bow and shoppers love alternatives. See Puff Bow Price Chart Below Regular Velvet. This is the industry
standard. It is a flocked, poly-backed
ribbon that is totally weatherproof. It
comes in many colors and is the best priced ribbon other than straight poly
which I don’t recommend using. Gold Backed. This is the same
quality ribbon as above but with a metallic backing the most popular of which
is gold. Some colors also come backed in
silver and even green. I wouldn’t
necessarily recommend this for the classic style bows because very little of
the back of the ribbon shows. It is
however very nice with the Puff bows. It
looks like there is gold or silver mixed in.
Again, this ribbon is totally weatherproof. Sparkle. This ribbon again
is the same quality as above and is just a few years old. It is a really excellent and clever example
of simple elegance. It comes in a few
colors and it simply has gold flecks dispersed throughout the flocking. It costs no more than gold backed ribbon and
the flecks in it pick up any bit of light beautifully, especially at night and
there’s a lot of night in the winter! Mixed. This refers to a
choice of two or three way combinations of ribbon colors for Puff bows. These bows have 4 tails, not two. There are some really subtle and lovely combinations
as well as wild and festive ones. Fancy Wired. These are selections
above and beyond the basics. I have a
large variety of textures & colors.
They are real traffic stoppers and still affordable. There are many examples of these bows on my
